Lil Wayne is being labeled a hypocrite by Kendrick Lamar fans after calling out people who are criticizing Bill Belichick’s new coaching gig at The University of North Carolina instead of just congratulating him.

The sports world blew up with chatter following news the six-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots had left the NFL and accepted a coaching job at UNC. And Weezy, a sports fanatic, wasn’t a fan of the critiques.

“Man much respect 2da GOAT coach Bill Belichick!” he wrote on X on Thursday (December 12). “Not sure why they’re all hatin but I believe it to be envy and just a bunch of folks that don’t know how to simply say ‘congratulations’ or nada! A wise man once said ‘u can luv me or hate me, I swear it wont make me or break me’…”

Kendrick fans were quick to point out the hypocrisy in the comments, as Wayne had a very different tune when Kendrick was chosen to perform at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show instead of him.

“the irony in this tweet LMFAOOO,” one person wrote. “‘Just a bunch of folks that don’t know how to simply say congratulations’ huh,” someone else said.

Another person commented: “I agree but you didn’t tell Kendrick congratulations or say Nada! Instead your expression of disappointment shaded his success.”

In a video posted to Instagram in September, Lil Wayne expressed his disappointment at the perceived snub of not being asked to perform at the game taking place in his hometown of New Orleans, admitting he was “hurt” and left feeling “broken.”

“I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown, and for automatically mentally putting myself in that position like somebody told me that was my position,” he said.

“But I thought there was nothing better than that spot and that stage and that platform in my city, so it hurt. It hurt a whole lot.”

Kendrick Lamar later addressed the uproar on his recent album GNX, rapping: “Used to bump ‘Tha Carter 3,’ I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down.”

He also spit: “Won the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me / All these n-ggas agitated, I’m just glad they showed they faces / Quite frankly, plenty artists but they outdated / Old-ass flows, tryna convince me that you they favorite.”

Weezy did not take kindly to the lyrics, firing back on X (formerly Twitter): “Man wtf I do?! I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all.”

He also warned: “No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love.”

According to Joe Budden, Wayne later attempted to call Kendrick to iron out their issues but the Compton rapstar did not pick up — prompting the “A Milli” MC to prepare a different response.

“I’m hearing that Wayne went in the booth,” he said in a serious tone.
